Pump stations, also called lift stations,  collect liquids and transport them to a destination higher in elevation. A pump station can save money on excavation and make low-lying areas suitable for building houses or commercial structures. They are referred to as lift stations because they lift liquids to higher locations.

Lift stations serves a variety of purposes in residential, industrial and municipal applications and their design must suit a particular location, climate and capacity. Here are several examples of how we specifically engineer lift stations to suit unique environmental characteristics and purposes.

Types of Pump Stations

The term ‘pump station’ refers to a wastewater pump stations but it is also loosely applied to potable water pumping stations. These move clean water for household or industrial purposes, including distilleries and wineries. Here are the most common types.

Wastewater pump stations transport sewage and wastewater for municipalities, parks, industries, etc. to processing facilities.

Stormwater pump stations are integral parts of city drainage systems and also remove standing water from low-lying areas around homes and other buildings.

Distillery and winery pump stations transport clean water, fermentation waste or beverage product to higher locations in the facility.

Pump Station Components

Components include:

  • Wet wells
    • Wet wells collect fluids until they reach a certain level, then the pump sends the fluids to their next destination
  • Screen or grinding to prevent clogs
    • Solid waste can clog or damage pumps. Grinders and screens prolong pump life and cut down maintenance.
  • Pumps
    • Pumps are the heart of the whole unit. Choosing the pump that will perform best in a particular situation requires expertise and experience.
  • Valve Vaults
    • A valve vault is a space that houses valve assemblies which makes them more easily accessible and separates them from the corrosive environment of the wet well.
  • Access Hatches
    • Hatches are essential as the “gateways to the pump station.” After construction is complete, all access is through the hatch.
  • Control Panels
    • Control panels are the brain of the station and control operations from the outside.

Engineering

In a pre-packaged pump station, all components must meet the approval of a licensed engineer.
